Spring cleaning for your body? This was the first I had heard of it too! Excercise is way to do it. Excercise helps flush your body of toxins by increasing your blood flow which stimulates the lymphatic system. Your lymphatic system is what safely transports waste from your body. If you keep your lymphatic system finely tuned, you will find your whole body looking and feeling better. Here are a few simple excercises to try once a day for 2 weeks to give your body a jump start it needs.
1 - Legs Up the Wall
What it does - Encourages the drainage of blood and lymphatic fluid from your feet and legs into your abdomen. From here, they can more easily be cleaned from your system. This simple excercise gives your circulatory system a rest. It will nourish your digestive organs giving you increased energy and function.
How to do it - Sit on the floor next to the wall with your knees bent, feet flat on the floor and right hip and shoulder touching the wall. Gently roll onto your back while swinging your legs up onto the wall. Scoot your butt as close to the wall as is comfortable. Simply rest your arms above your head, on your tummy or at your sides. Hold for 2 minutes.
2 - Standing Twist
What it does - This excercise will raise your body temperature which will stimulate your lymphatic system to release toxins. It's as though you were wringing toxins out of your digestive tract.
How to do it - Begin in a runner's lunge with your right leg at a 90 degree angle. Your left leg is to be extended straight behind you. Your hands can be resting at either side of your right foot. Lower your left knee to the floor. Bring your hands up into the prayer position with your palms touching. Inhale. Exhale. Now rotate your upper torso so that your elbow touches the outside of your right knee. Hold for 5 breaths. Repeat on the other side.
3 - Seated Tree
What it does - Increases circulation around your abdomen. This helps wash waste from around your abdomen thereby revitalizing your organs.
How to do it - Sit on the floor with your legs straight in front of you. Bend your left knee bringing your left foot to your right thigh. Allow your left knee to drop to the floor. With your left hand, reach and grab hold of your right foot or shin. Twist your torso towards your right leg. Hold for 5-10 deep breaths. Switch sides and repeat.
